The Silver Libertad is a Mexican silver bullion coin that shares the same design as the gold version. These coins were issued for the first time in 1981 by the Casa de Moneda de Mexico. The theme of the coin's design is a celebration of Mexican independence and reflects an ongoing desire for continued national freedom. Early versions of this coin featured smooth edges that had the inscription Independence y Libertad on the outside. Their fineness was of lower quality than those currently in production. The current version is a popular coin for both investors and collectors due a combination of attractive design and historical patriotic imagery. There are several different denominations of this coin, but the one ounce is preferred among both investors and collectors.
